Carrier Liability Policies, compulsory for all carriers regarding maritime, land and airline transportations, do not cover several disasters such as earthquake, storm, flood, terror, general average (this is a legal principle of maritime law according to which all parties in a sea venture proportionally share any losses resulting from a voluntary sacrifice of part of the ship or cargo to save the whole in an emergency), bridge collapse, and landslide – all of which are disasters not stemming from the carrier. Hence, damages resulting from these kinds of incidents cannot be recovered through legal means, since the carrier has no responsibility.
